Terms of Commitment

Commitment:

This is a dream we all share and it will take everyone’s commitment for us to make Burning Man 2017 a reality. If you have committed to this then we expect you to follow through and be part of the team. We are aware that life happens and we might lose some of the team as we get closer to the date due to unforeseen circumstances... like death :P

We have limited space on the team. 25 People in Total.
We are looking at going with 15 - 20 performers and 5 to 10 support crew.
To make this a reality we need everyone to be behind this 100%. If you for any reason feel you cannot see this commitment through then please do not apply.

We intend on fund raising all the required funds through various means but in the case we fall short of target. You will be expected to cover the remainder of the cost involved for you. This means if we manage to raise only 70% of the funds required you will have to cover the remainder of your costs involved. (eg 30% of 25k is 7,5k)

Practices and Rehearsals:

We have not yet scheduled any practices/rehearsals but we expect you to attend all practices unless a valid reason can be given for missing practice. We still have 2 years but this does not mean we can slack off. We need a fully choreographed show that has narrative and we need to submit it by June 2016 (This is technically one year early, but we intend to apply early, because of the time involved in planning the mission). Part of that application is a 15 minute video. We are competing against potentially hundreds of other applications. We need a proper show not just a thrown together last minute show.

If you disrupt/arrive late or come to practice intoxicated that will count as a violation. Three violations count as a point against you. 3 Points and you’re out. A bit harsh but we are serious about what we are trying to achieve here
We will have a discussion on the FB group regarding Dates and Regularity of practices

Fundraising & Dues:

This is the biggest challenge that lies ahead of us. Raising the required funds to get us all there. The plan is to raise all the money we need as most of us can’t afford it even with real jobs. So we will need to raise money in every way possible.
Speaking to some South Africans that have gone in the past they say it cost about 20-25k per person. So we will be aiming at 25k per person to be on the safe side. With a Team of 25 that is.... are you ready for this?? R625k! That’s over half a million rand! Now you see the mammoth task ahead of us! We will be working out a more accurate costing based around our needs. It might be lower or higher but this is a good benchmark

? Dues - If all 25 members that commit to going each put R100 away per month, in two years time as a collective we would have raised R60k.
We need everyone to partake in fundraising or this dream will never come true.
Raffles, Kickstarter type Campaign, Performances, Grants, Busking, Begging and even prostitution is being considered for means of fundraising ;)

Sobriety:

Practice: During practice we expect you to be sober and focused. This is to ensure that practice runs smoothly and we do not need to schedule further practices.
Main Burn: This goes without saying but just in case you don’t know, on the Saturday night of the main burn you have to be sober & focused. If you arrive in an altered state you will not be allowed to perform in the main burn and your experience will fall short of its full goal. Stay sober on the Saturday Night. After the burn go WILD.
